This Editorial Policy sets out the principles, standards, and responsibilities that govern the publication of news, analysis, opinion, interviews, reports, and other editorial material on vaamkiaawaz.in("Vaam Ki Aawaz", the "Website"), operated by [REGISTERED ENTITY NAME]("we", "us", or "our").

The Website is a digital news and public-interest platform based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It focuses on labour, agrarian and livelihood issues, social justice, education, health, minority rights, democratic questions, people's movements, and related public affairs. Our editorial identity is people-centred and justice-oriented. That identity does not relieve us, or any author, of the duty to be accurate, fair, lawful, and accountable.

This Policy applies to material published by or through the Website, including content authored, edited, uploaded, or approved by our editorial personnel, contributors, and authorised account holders. Reader comments and third-party websites remain subject to their own standards and to our separate Website terms and privacy notices, where applicable.

1. Editorial Mission and Scope

We publish journalism intended to inform the public interest. Our formats may include news reports, field reports, analysis, interviews, opinion and commentary, guest contributions, cultural writing, and coverage of public campaigns and movements. We may also publish documents, resources, and event information where editorially appropriate.

Publication on the Website does not constitute endorsement of every view expressed in an attributed opinion piece, guest contribution, or interview, except where we expressly adopt that view as our own institutional position. Opinion and analysis must nevertheless remain consistent with this Policy, applicable law, and the duty not to mislead.

2. Accuracy, Verification, and Source Integrity

Accuracy is a primary editorial obligation. Before publication, authors and editors are expected to take reasonable steps to verify material facts by reference to reliable sources. Depending on the nature of the story, such sources may include official documents, court or parliamentary records, sworn testimony where available, contemporaneous reporting, eyewitness accounts, primary documents, and other materials capable of independent corroboration.

Where information cannot be independently verified, the article should disclose the limitation with appropriate attribution and caution. Rumour, speculation, and unverified allegation must not be presented as established fact. Sensational, clickbait, or deliberately misleading headlines are prohibited.

Where a report contains allegations of wrongdoing, incompetence, or misconduct concerning an identified or identifiable person or organisation, the author and editor must exercise heightened care. They should consider whether the allegation is supported by evidence of sufficient quality for publication, whether the public interest justifies publication, whether a right of reply or comment has been sought where reasonably practicable, and whether the wording fairly distinguishes allegation from proven fact.

Absolute accuracy cannot be guaranteed in every instance of journalism. Where an error occurs, we will address it in accordance with our Corrections Policy.

3. Fairness, Context, and Distinction of Content Types

We practise people-centred journalism and may take an editorial stance on questions of justice, equality, labour rights, and democratic accountability. That stance does not authorise distortion of facts, suppression of material contrary evidence, or the presentation of opinion as verified news.

Authors and editors should, where reasonably necessary for fairness:

• present material context relevant to a reader's understanding;
• distinguish news reporting from analysis, commentary, satire, or opinion;
• attribute contested claims to their sources and avoid presenting contested claims as settled truth; and
• give due consideration to significant contrary views where the subject matter and public interest so require.

4. Editorial Independence

We seek to maintain editorial independence from political parties, governmental authorities, corporate interests, advertisers, and donors. Advertising, sponsorship, affiliation, or funding—if any—must not dictate factual findings, suppress legitimate public-interest reporting, or convert news into undisclosed promotional content.

Where content is sponsored, paid, promotional, or otherwise commercially influenced, it must be clearly labelled as such. Undisclosed paid news or covert advertising is prohibited.

Nothing in this section prevents us from reporting critically on any political party, public authority, corporation, organisation, or individual where such reporting is lawful, evidence-based, and in the public interest.

5. Authorship, Attribution, and Contributor Responsibility

Articles ordinarily display an attributed author or byline. The Website may also record the identity or contributor code of the authorised account holder who uploaded the article. The credited author and the uploader may be different persons. Pen names may be used where editorially authorised, but a pen name does not extinguish responsibility for the content.

Authors, guest contributors, and authorised account holders remain responsible for the accuracy, lawfulness, originality, and supporting materials of content they submit or publish. By submitting or publishing content, they represent that:

• they have the right to publish the text, images, documents, and other materials submitted;
• the content does not knowingly infringe copyright, privacy, or other legal rights;
• quotations, documents, and media are fairly and accurately presented; and
• any material allegation is supported by a reasonable basis for publication.

Publication through an authorised contributor account may occur without a separate technical approval queue. Editorial oversight, revision, and removal remain available to authorised editors and administrators. The existence of a publishing account does not create an entitlement to permanent publication or immunity from correction, edit, or removal.

6. Use of Artificial Intelligence and Automated Tools

We may use artificial-intelligence tools and other automated technologies for research assistance, language improvement, formatting, translation support, or similar editorial workflow purposes. Such tools are aids only.

No article may be published solely on the basis of unverified machine-generated output. Final responsibility for editing, factual verification, legal care, and publication decisions rests with a human author and/or human editor. AI-assisted material must not invent sources, fabricate quotations, misrepresent evidence, or present speculative outputs as verified reporting.

Where automated translation tools are used on the Website for reader convenience, the original Hindi text of an article prevails in the event of any conflict, ambiguity, or translation error.

7. Lawful Content, Defamation, and Harmful Speech

Content published on the Website must comply with the applicable laws of India, including laws relating to defamation, privacy, copyright, obscenity, hate speech, electoral regulation, and other public-order and criminal offences. Authors and editors must not publish material that they know, or ought reasonably to know, is unlawful.

Without limiting the foregoing, we do not publish, and will remove or refuse where identified:

• knowingly false statements of fact that are likely to harm the reputation of an identifiable person or organisation without a lawful justification;
• content that incites violence, hatred, or discrimination against any person or group on prohibited grounds;
• content that is obscene, sexually exploitative, or otherwise unlawful;
• content that discloses private, confidential, or sensitive personal information without a lawful and public-interest justification;
• content that infringes copyright or other intellectual-property rights; and
• content that is intended primarily to harass, intimidate, or vilify.

Criticism of public officials, public institutions, political parties, corporations, and matters of public concern is a recognised function of journalism when undertaken in good faith, with due care as to facts, and within the limits of law. Fair comment, reportage of public proceedings, and publication of true statements of public importance remain subject to the legal standards applicable in India.

8. Sensitive Subjects, Vulnerable Persons, and Minors

Reporting on violence, sexual offences, suicides, communal tension, medical trauma, victims of crime, survivors, and other sensitive subjects requires particular care. Authors and editors should avoid gratuitous graphic detail, unnecessary identification of victims or survivors, and language that sensationalises suffering or prejudices an investigation or trial.

Special care must be taken where children are concerned. The Website is a general-audience news platform. Content must not identify a child in a manner that is unlawful or that foreseeably exposes the child to harm, stigma, or exploitation, except where publication is lawfully permitted and editorially justified in the public interest with appropriate safeguards.

9. Political and Election-Related Content

Political reporting and analysis form part of our coverage of democratic affairs. During election periods and at all other times, authors and editors must comply with applicable election law, election-commission directions, and restraints on polling, exit polls, paid political content, and dissemination of false statements about candidates or the electoral process.

Any political advertisement, sponsored political communication, or election-related paid content—if accepted—must be clearly labelled and handled in accordance with applicable law. Ordinary news and analysis must not be presented as neutral reporting when it is in substance a paid or partisan communication.

10. Images, Documents, Embeds, and Third-Party Material

Images, videos, documents, and embedded media used in articles must be lawfully obtained and fairly presented. Authors and uploaders are responsible for ensuring that they possess the necessary rights, licences, permissions, or fair-dealing justifications for publication. Captions and credits should accurately describe the material and avoid misleading implications.

Embedded third-party content, including videos hosted by services such as YouTube or Vimeo, remains subject to the terms and policies of those providers. The presence of an embed does not make us the author of the third-party content, but we remain responsible for the editorial decision to include it and for any accompanying text.

11. Reader Comments and User-Generated Material

Reader comments are not editorial content of the Website. Comments are published upon submission after basic validation and are the responsibility of the person who posts them. We may remove comments that are unlawful, abusive, defamatory, hateful, spam, infringing, or otherwise inconsistent with the standards of the Website. The absence of pre-publication moderation of comments does not constitute endorsement of any comment.

12. Corrections, Updates, and Right of Reply

We correct significant errors and publish clarifications in accordance with our Corrections Policy. Readers may report alleged errors by email to vaamkiaawaz@gmail.com.

Where a person or organisation that is the subject of a report makes a timely and good-faith request for a right of reply, correction, or clarification, we will consider the request and, where warranted by the facts and the public interest, publish an appropriate response, correction, update, or clarification. A request for reply does not oblige us to publish defamatory, unlawful, or non-responsive material.

13. Removal, Restriction, and Archival Retention

We may edit, update, restrict access to, or remove content where necessary for accuracy, legality, safety, rights-protection, editorial standards, or compliance with a valid legal obligation. Content removed from public view may be retained internally in a restricted form for audit, accountability, and legal-defence purposes.

Requests for removal based solely on disagreement with a lawful and accurate publication of public importance will not ordinarily result in deletion of the historical record. We may nevertheless consider updates, annotations, or contextual notes where fairness so requires.

14. Digital Platforms and Distribution

We respect the content and publisher policies of distribution platforms with which we may interact, including search and news-aggregation services. Compliance with a platform's policies is in addition to, and not a substitute for, compliance with Indian law and this Editorial Policy. Appearance or non-appearance on any third-party platform does not alter our editorial standards.

We will review genuine complaints in good faith and take such action as we consider appropriate in light of this Policy, our Corrections Policy, and applicable law.

This contact channel is an editorial and administrative means of communication. It is not a representation that a statutory Grievance Officer has been appointed where no such appointment has yet been made.

16. Relationship to Other Policies and Governing Law

This Editorial Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, Corrections Policy, and any other published Website policies. In the event of inconsistency on a privacy matter, the Privacy Policy prevails for that matter. In the event of inconsistency on a correction procedure, the Corrections Policy prevails for that procedure.

This Policy is governed by the applicable laws of India. Subject to any mandatory statutory forum or jurisdiction that cannot lawfully be excluded, disputes arising out of or relating to this Policy shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts at Kolkata, West Bengal.

We may amend this Policy from time to time. The revised version will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
